Katie Woodard, Lakeshore Key Club Advisor, welcomed us to lunch at the High School. We then said the “Pledge of Allegiance” and the Key Club Pledge. Mike Sinn led the Kiwanians in singing “Smile.” We then were treated to a nice lunch of salad, lasagna, garlic bread, and cookies for dessert.
After lunch, we all introduced ourselves individually. Then the Key Club Officers gave a PowerPoint presentation of their activities throughout the year:
- In the summer, the board members discussed the upcoming service year and their goals. They also attended a Division 8 Officer training conference at Kiwanis Park.
- At the beginning of the year, the club had grown to over 200 members.
- They held blood drives monthly.
- Blanket Brigades. Worked with St. Joe Key Clubbers monthly.
- Hosted the annual homecoming dance, raising money for the Thirst Project.
- Divisional Rally at St. Joe hosted by Lt. Gov. Salsabil and made cookies for 1st responders.
- Kiwanis Family Trunk or Treat. An event for foster children in Berrien County. Tom Nelson and Kiwanis originally suggested this event.
- Roadside Cleanup
- TOPsoccer. Won major Emphasis award.
- Rake-a-Difference.
- Humane Society Donations.
- Christman Cookie Decorating for Lakeshore HS staff.
- Executive Board attended a Kiwanis meeting.
- Helped at the Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast, spring and fall.
- Read to elementary students and made bookmarks for them.
- Blossomland Fun Day. Assisted Blossomland Learning Center with their Fun Day.
- Upcoming special education Track and Field Day.
- Upcoming executive board elections.
- SLC (Student Leadership Conference) in Lansing. Eleven Key Clubbers attended. Several awards won.
At the end of the meeting, Bruce Molineaux reminded everyone that the Spring Pancake Breakfast would be held on May 17th, with the proceeds going towards the Kaleidoscope Playground Project at Kiwanis Park.
Katie Woodard told all the senior Key Club students that the St. Joseph Kiwanis Foundation will be awarding scholarships again this year. Applications will be out soon.
Katie thanked all of us for attending and expressed her gratitude to the Kiwanians for their support.
