Member Training Session

Ashley Schulte was our speaker for the day. She gave a presentation on “Youth Protection Policies & Procedures.” Ashley answered the questions: 

• Who needs a Kiwanis Background check? Kiwanis Key Club Advisors and chaperones need a valid background check. 
• What is the Kiwanis Culture of Care? The culture of care provides youth with resources to prevent bullying, access mental health resources, communicate in a healthy manner, and respect personal boundaries. 
• How to report abuse, inappropriate behavior, and policy violations. The Youth Protection Helpline is 866-607-SAFE. 

Ashley reviewed online and electronic policies. This includes not following, friending, or initiating communications with youth. Use the rule of 3 and avoid 1-on-1 interactions on social media. The same goes for transportation. There should be at least 3 people in the car, with the youth in the back seat, and parental permission.
