General Manager Gilbert Bourgouin joined “Old Europe Cheese” in Benton Harbor after the facility underwent a recall and a complete renovation in 2023.
“Old Europe Cheese” is a Spanish-owned company that has branches in Mexico, France, Poland, and Spain. The company started in the USA when they bought the old “Producer’s Creamery” on Empire Ave. in 1987. The company specializes in soft cheeses, such as Brie, made in the European style and sold under the name “Reny Picot.”
Currently, the Benton Harbor facility makes over 13,500 pounds of cheese daily, using milk from Michigan suppliers.
“Old Europe Cheese” has won awards worldwide for its soft cheeses, especially its double-cream and triple-cream varieties.
For safety, especially after the 2023 recall, there is an on-site lab that passes several safety inspections yearly.
